Knitting psychology

In the process of development of this website, I realized that the psychology of knitting is an important subject of research. There are a lot of studies about the therapeutic effects of knitting, especially for mental health. Some people come together and knit, to be able to socialize; some knit to overcome depression or even a life crisis. Some knit, because they like the knitting process, or the outcome. Knitting is a process where one learns self and time management. Knitting is a learning experience – one who knits always learns new patterns, makes mistakes and knits anew. Knitting is a very creative multi-sided process, so for many people it is an expression of their creativity. Knitting is well known also as a process linking together generations.

For me personally, knitting is driven by all the above mentioned factors. I have inner motivation to knit – for my friends and relatives.

However, year 2020 for has been extremely active knitting year. Partly it was caused by Covid and its forced social distancing. But this year for me and Ian has been also very hard psychologically – our unsolved problems at work added a lot of stress. To get rid of it, I entered my comfort zone and my meditation zone – knitting at any part of the world, any time-zone, any position.

I would really like to study the published papers on knitting’s psychological effects, and to insert here the links to them or quotes from them. I will do it, when there are no urgent knittings in my mind, when there is not approaching Christmas with “last-minute” knittings.

I expect that in one year time I will be able to add in my website the links to important articles. It will not be about professional knitting. It will not be about professional psychology. It will be my perspective to the psychology of knitting. It will be about FRIENDSHIP KNITTING and KNIT FIT.
