Shawls, scarves and caps

Christmas caps

The approaching Christmas 2021 brought a new concept of the Santa Claus cap or – simply Christmas cap.

One can always buy cheap, red caps in the stores and use them for one evening..and then throw them away. However, for my own grand-kids, I knitted nice and soft caps (cotton yarn used), which will last for years and hopefully leave a mark for their Christmas traditions.

Knitting the caps, I used the ornaments of Latvian ethnographic signs, choosing the ones that fit better to the each little person.

After knitting the caps to the kids, I realized that it is a very nice, practical and useful present for my family and friends.

This cap is decorated with the Mara Water sign, above which there is a line of Grass snakes, and above them – little symbols of Sun. The water means dynamics and development, grass snakes – wisdom, and the sun – warmth, light and protection against all evil.

This cap is decorated with the God sign and Mara Earth sign which symbolize peace, stability and security. In the middle line there is a row of Morning stars, which is considered to be the symbol of light,  victory of light over dark.  Protects from and repels evil spirits.

This cap has a line of Mara Crosses – sign of femininity and Motherhood. Mara Cross is related to fertility, fire, home, and the things that bring material well-being. It is Protector against misfortune.

2025. A knitted set for a kid. Double mittens and hat. The outside – Regia sock yarn, inside – green merino wool.

The doggie Christmas hat

This hat was knitted for a doggie. The kids – owners of the doggie received the hats as a Christmas present, and so did their doggie. The doggie was very confused, but seeing the kids wearing similar hats, she also did not mind to have one (for a while). This was my first doggie-hat trial; Next time I will make it more functional, not only decorative .

I knitted this hat for a particular coat. I chose merino wool+silk yarn, as my skin cannot tolerate sharper wool. In order to make the hat warmer on the ears, I filled the cuff of the hat with a knitted lining – now there are 3 layers of knit, and thus protecting my ears from the wind.
These mittens were knitted from the remaining yarn, in order to match the hat.
2023, merino wool
I supplemented the hat with a pair of warm, double knitted mittens, which carry the Latvian “Jumis” sign.2023.
The hat is knitted from soft bamboo/elastic sock yarn. 2023.

Double function Shawl

This shall that I knitted for my good friend’s birthday. I got an inspiration for its design in the internet – “smart shall”. It is knitted from a wonderful “Desert paintings” woolen yarn. I developed my own pattern, so that the both functions of the shall can be realized better.
